THE DEVELOPMENT OF CONTEMPORARY ART IN TERNOPIL IN LINE WITH ALL-UKRAINIAN TRENDS

Abstract

The article examines the formation of a national artistic identity that was shaped under the Iron Curtain, when creative pluralism, launched in the late 1980s, was rapidly gaining moment. At that time Ukrainian artists joined postmodernist trends. The article explores the role of visual art as a reflection of socio-cultural changes, which allows us to rethink traditional practices and adapt them to modern challenges. Particular attention is paid to the works of Ternopil artists who explore the issues of cultural identity, self-identification and Ukraine’s place in the European cultural space. Exhibitions in Ukraine and abroad, symposiums and plein airs promote creative experiments, reveal the author’s style and new artistic directions. Painters, sculptors and ceramists of Ternopil region create artistic images that reflect the complex process of national self-determination and the search for places in the modern world where the boundaries between cultures are blurred. The contribution of Ivan Marchuk, whose innovative style has gained international recognition while maintaining a deep connection to Ukrainian traditions, is highlighted. The works of Mykhailo Kuziv, Roman Vilhushynskyi, Mykola Dmytrukh, Volodymyr Chornobai, Borys Rudyi, Mykola Shevchuk, Dmytro Stetsko, and Yevhen Ovcharyk, whose art shapes the features of modernity with individual artistic search, are also considered. Artists actively implement the latest trends, experimenting with materials, forms and hidden meanings. The works of Bohdan and Hanna Tkachyk highlight the comprehension of historical, philosophical and religious aspects. The art of Ternopil artists continues to develop, integrating classical traditions with innovative approaches.
