DIRECTIONS AND FEATURES OF ACTIVITIES OF THE BRITISH SOFT IMPACT INSTITUTIONS IN UKRAINE (1992–2024)

Abstract

The purpose of the article is to clarify the main directions and features of activities of the British soft influence institutions (organizations) in Ukraine during 1992–2024. The research methodology is based on the principles of historicism and impartiality, as well as on the soft power concept by J.Nye. The scientific novelty lies in the comprehensive coverage of the British organizations’ activities in Ukraine through the prism of the soft power theory. Conclusions. Each of the British soft power institutions, to one degree or another connected with the government structures of the United Kingdom, has its own priority area of activity in Ukraine: BBC Ukrainian Service – informational, British Council – linguistic and educational, Know How Fund – economic, Westminster Foundation for Democracy – political and legal, Sigrid Rausing Trust – humanitarian (human rights). The main results of their activities are the formation of Great Britain’s positive image, the spread of its language, culture and values. All this contributes to the processes of democratization and liberalization in Ukraine along the European model, and the formation of active civil society groups in it.
