The ornamentation of early Slavic vessel was not characterized by considerable diversity.Therefore, comments about the decoration in the works of the predecessors were fugitive in nature usually. We have not work in which the ornamentation of early Slavic pottery is characterized as a separate system. However, a few examples of specific designs on the decorated ceramics suggest that the informational potential of ornamentation, no matter how primitive they may seem at first glance, but are much more. Historiographical review allowed us to conclude that the study is giving the interesting result when you is limited by the materials of the same sites, the materials or several geographically and chronologically close of sights. We focused on the methodology applied by the predecessors in the study of ornamentation, identified the main features of the ornamentation of early medieval pottery of Dnieper region, theoretical aspects of ornamentation. Interesting results fairly broad generalizations and some aspects of the local learning of specific sites, observations regarding the decorating of ceramic vessels.Since the results of the analysis of specific materials from sights give even locally limited, but relatively unambiguous information about the cultural and chronological specificity of the ornamentation of ceramic vessels.
