CHARLES DUBREUIL’S MEMOIRS AS A HISTORICAL SOURCE OF UKRAINIAN LITERATURE DEVELOPMENT AS THE MAIN FACTOR OF THE FORMATION OF UKRAINIAN PEOPLE’S NATIONAL SELF-CONSCIOUSNESS

The article deals with the review of the memoirs of French professor Charles Dubreuil, that had been in Ukraine in 1917–1919, particularly the reflection of cultural domain of Ukrainian society’s life.The author had presented his own view on the development of Ukrainian literature, and also he had evaluated the most famous Ukrainian poets and writers, like I. Kotliarevsky, T. Shevtchenko, Lesia Ukrainka, M. Shashkevitch, etc. Ukrainian literature had been analysed by author as the base of the formation of Ukrainian national self-consciousness.
