UKRAINE IN THE EUROPEAN SYSTEM OF SUBORDINATION OF SOCIETIES ACCORDING TO THE CONCEPT OF W. E. D. ALLEN

Abstract

The article attempts a scientific understanding of the phenomena of Ukrainians in the context of a problem of subordination of societies in the Eurasian space. A staring points of investigation was the concept of the British scientist and political figure V.E.D. Allen, presented and published in 1940 on the pages of thorough exploration «The Ukraine. A History». On the basis of comparison of the ideas of the author with the position of Ukrainian scientists, especially Yuri Lypa, the conclusion about critical importance of cultural-spiritual transit from Ecumenical centres to the periphery through the territory of the country for the formation of Ukraine as a geopolitical integrity was made. At the same time, the difference between formulation of the problem in the works of Ukrainian and British scientists were shown. In particular, W.E.D. Allen consistently emphasized secondary nature of the agricultural (as well as pastoral) communities of the Northern Black sea region in relation to the ancient states of the Mediterranean. But Ukrainian researches considered the agricultural nature of the proto-Ukrainian cultures to be a sigh of settlement and civilization of the higher cost and put them on the same level with the advanced countries of Europe.
