MITHRIDATES VI EUPATOR AND THE MEMBERS OF HIS FAMILY IN THE «DE CASIBUS VIRORUM ILLUSTRIUM», «DE MULIERIBUS CLARIS» GIOVANNI BOCCACCIO AND IN THE ANCIENT SOURCES

This article is devoted to the analysis primary sources about the Pontic king Mithridates VI and the members of his family. The article gives information upon narrative ancient and medieval works, and visual sources which highlight the obvious facts about king’s life and his family. The article compares J. Boccaccio works («De casibus virorum illustrium» and «De mulieribus claris») with the ancient and early medieval historians works. The evidences from the narrative sources are compared with miniatures of the J. Boccaccio’s translation works. The methodological base includes approaches of comparison, analysis, synthesis and principles of historicism, sequence, complexity, based upon primary sources priority. There are conclusions about obligatory comparison of information obtained from sources interpretation.
