THE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE POLITICAL GROUPS IN THE BOARD OF THE ATHENIAN STATEGOI IN 490/89 BC

This paper presents a survey of the board of strategoi in 490/489 BC, and the political orientation of each of the strategoi. During research it is established that in the structure of the strategoi of 490/489 BC were representatives of various political groups, cooperation between them, however, was not excluded completely. Due to the open aggression of Persia it was extremely important for anti-Persian coalition to obtain the majority within the board of the strategoi, or at least to have five places of ten, and if it was possible to sway on their side those of strategoi who, for whatever reasons, hesitated to define their political positions.
