The paper investigated the ethnic composition of the Uman population in the end of the XVIIIth – in the beginning of the XIXth century. In the article the author compares ethnic and social composition of population in Uman region and Kiev province. The investigation aims to show Uman population social structure features; special attention drawn to Jewish population. The author focuses on the social and economic differences between Uman and Uman region ethnic group. The article also shows the dynamics of the change in the Uman region population, which took considerable effect on its economic life development.
