NATIONAL CODE: FROM FOLKLORE TO A LITERARY WORK (BASED ON THE FAIRY TALES OF BOHDAN LEPKY)

Abstract

The article deals with the fairy-tales by Bogdan Lepky from the point of view of representing in them the elements of the national code, fixed in the folklore texts.Our attention is focused on such tales of the Ukrainian author as „About the gran- dfather, woman and Lame duck”, „On the evil stepmother, orphan Katrusia, black pussy, twelve robbers and a prince of a fairy tale”. The methodological basis was provided by the generalization of the materials having been made on the research of the Ukrainian folk tale, the national identity as well as the creativity of Bogdan Lepky.The creation of artistic reality by the Ukrainian author involves an attempt to attract the attention of small and adult readers to their roots, to the origins of spiritual sour- ces, concentrated in folklore texts, as well as the need to understand others not as worse, but possible to conduct dialogue and be enriched through it. The aim of this study is to investigate the national codes of fairy-tales of Lepky, in which the specific features of Ukrainian identity are concentrated. The article is of interest to allow us to form a world-view position based on our own Ukrainian identity, to penetrate into the depths of the Ukrainian culture, which takes its origins in the distant past, in order to understand oneself through others. The article is of great help to revive the work of the writer, whose name during the years of Soviet totalitarianism was silenced.
