A. S. PUSHKIN — MASTER OF PAINTING IN WORDS: ON THE QUESTION OF MODELING ACTION IN THE NOVEL "EUGENE ONEGIN"

Abstract

In the article, through the analysis of poetics, Pushkin’s mastery of painting by the word is examined. The article deals with stanzas containing a series of genre paintings which appear on the subtext level and in the metatext space. Those properties of Pushkin’s poetics, activating the co- creative abilities of the recipient, are revealed. A special attention is paid to the meaning-forming elements — words-markers and other codes, which, associating with real facts, revived in the memory of the recipient events that are outside the immediate content of the text, but somehow correlate with it. It is shown that the individual vital facts and events that occurred in the memory by reverse reading (N. Gey) can, in certain cases, serve as a clue to the «encrypted» meanings in the text. The rollcalls of the image system of the novel in verses “Eugene Onegin” with the image system of the poem “Mednyi Vsadnik” (“The Bronze Horseman”) are shown, which organize the metatext space of the novel and makes it possible to realize that “Russia is located at the crossroads of civilizational flows” (V. Schukin).
