HOW TO BEGIN A RUSSIAN LESSON IN AN INTERESTING WAY? (AS A CASE STUDY OF STUDENTS OF UKRAINIAN STUDIES ON THE UNIVERSITY OF WARSAW)

The article fits into the trend of modern methodology and is devoted to a widely understood problem of teaching foreign languages. On the basis of the author’s own experience related to teaching Russian to a group of students of Ukrainian Studies on The University of Warsaw, the article presents interesting ways to begin a language lesson in order to make learners interested and to use their potential and engagement in an effective way. The author presents four ways to begin the classes. The first – engaging learners in guessing the subject of a lesson (with the use of demonstrative materials); the second, basing on active revision of the lesson material; the third – using multimedia; the fourth – challenging students to answer unconventional questions. Apart from details concerning the first 10-20 minutes of a lesson, the author emphasizes the fact that the guarantee of successful language classes is first of all, their dynamic character and secondly, friendly atmosphere promoting communication and memorization of the new material.
