LINES OF LIFE (AFTER JOSEPH CONRAD’S NOVEL ALMAYER'S FOLLY)

Abstract

At present the task of state importance stands before Ukraine – to educate the rising generation of high cultural wealth. In time when fiction literature is not generally read, a young person should be given books which deal with the problems of philosophy, morals, beauty, civil position, power, self- affirmation, goodness and evil. So are the books of the English writer Joseph Conrad. Pole by nationality, he was born on Ukrainian earth (Zhytomyr region). In his novel Almayer's Folly (1895) the accent is made on such important for young boys and girls questions, as sense of life, vital plan, paternal scenario, loneliness, choice, moral values, positive and negative emotions and so on. On the first place for a writer is a fate of a man. And this fate is not simple, as well as not simple, even extreme are the situations which the man gets in. But the main thing, according to Conrad, it is always to remain a whole-hearted man. The man who lives according to the laws of goodness and love and observe a law; knows his duties and fulfills them professionally; is a strong and honest person. The material after Joseph Conrad’s novel Almayer's Folly offered in the article can be used for extracurricular activities in literature for a youth audience. The article gives an approximate course of problem lecture. A few lines of life (of Caspar Almayer, Mrs.Almayer, Nine, Diana Marul) are distinguished. All other tasks of the activity can be partly worked out on the basis of the offered material. During the lecture it is recommended to dramatize a fragment from the novel (See appendixes).
