“EMOTIONAL PAINTING OF EXPERIENCES”: ART AND PSYCHOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF COLORISTICS OF MODERNIST NOVEL

This article analyzes the coloristics of modernist novel: the genre at the turn of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries largely differed from its traditional canon, acquiring of new features, among which the broad coloristic paradigm – from a few to a multiplicity of scales – attracts our attention. The coloristics is particularly very intense and rich in symbolist and impressionist versions of the genre. Therefore, the aim of this research is to study the means of expression and function of colors in the novels of the Ukrainian and Russian writers of this period. Theoretical generalizations have been made on the basis of works by M.Yatskov, S. Gorodetsky, F. Sologub, M. Kotsyubynsky, and B. Zaitsev. It is noted that the novels of two last writers have typological similarity due to many alike features particulary color continuum and color associations in their novels are close to the symbolic and psychological sensations of a human being. Writers, symbolizing or metaphorisizing the particular color and its shades in their works, not only recreated the charming scenery and overlooked the understanding of the psychological and ontological issues. The limited amount of paper does not exhaust the subject completely, it remains the theme of the further scientific interests of the author.
