MAGICAL REALISM IN THE NOVELS OF DANIELA HODROVÁ

Abstract

The article concerns the works of a prominent Czech writer, Daniela Hodrová. The aim of this paper is to present the elements of magical realism in Hodrová's novels. It is worth mentioning that it is quite unusual for Czech literature, because magical realism is usually associated with works of Latin American writers. Therefore, the novels by Hodrová may be considered to be some kind of a literary experiment. It should also be noticed that Hodrová skillfully combines her theoretical work with her literature. In the books of this Czech writer, Prague as the city full of ghosts of the past plays a particular role. In order to deeply analyse this problem, the author of the article uses materials concerning the specifics of magical realism, as well as contemporary Czech literature - Hodrová is not in fact the only Czech writer whose works reveal that tendency.
