UKRAINIAN BAROQUE TRACTATE AS THE BASIS OF ESSAYISTICS

Abstract

This article is devoted to the study of Ukrainian Baroque treatises as the basis for the development of essay writing. It analyzes the structural, stylistic, and ideological features of Baroque texts that were widespread in Ukraine in the 17th and 18th centuries, and their influence on the formation of the essay as a literary genre. Particular attention is paid to the rhetorical devices, symbolism, and imagery that are characteristic of Baroque literature and have become an integral part of the essayistic style. Key aspects of the Baroque treatise are considered, in particular its didactic nature, the combination of religious and philosophical motifs, and the pursuit of harmony between the spiritual and the material. It is emphasized that these features are reflected in many works by Ukrainian essayists, who used Baroque techniques to express complex ideas in an understandable and at the same time sophisticated form. The work also focuses on the historical context of the development of Ukrainian Baroque, its interaction with European literary traditions, and the peculiarities of its adaptation to national conditions. It demonstrates how Ukrainian thinkers of that time created unique texts that combined traditional Baroque elements with local themes. The influence of Ukrainian Baroque treatises on contemporary essay writing, which often employs the same techniques – metaphorical language, multi-layered content, and wordplay and imagery – is examined separately. The conclusion is that the Baroque literary heritage has not only retained its relevance but has also become a source of inspiration for many contemporary authors. The importance of the Ukrainian Baroque treatise as a cultural phenomenon that played a significant role in the formation of essay writing as a genre is emphasized. Scientific analysis of the dialogue between Baroque treatises and essay writing allows us to identify new facets of genres, determine key trends in the formation of the genre system of Ukrainian literature, better understand the origins of contemporary literature and appreciate its diversity, and contributes to a deeper understanding of the historical and cultural context of Ukrainian literature and its links with pan-European trends.
