EXERCISES SYSTEM FOR FORMING FUTURE SPANISH TEACHERS’ LISTENING COMPETENCE

Abstract

The article deals with the problem of analyzing the exercises system for forming future Spanish teachers’ listening competence. Language teachers’ training is a mainstream among the requirements of the Ukrainian society. The article presents a research of the problem of forming listening competence and substantiates it as the priority activity in the course of teaching foreign communication. This paper substantiates the topicality of the research of the exercises system for forming listening competence suggested by Spanish methodology of language teaching. The definition of the concept “listening competence” has been specified in the light of the position of Spanish methodologists. Students should develop the following strategies/microabilities in the course of forming listening competence: to recognize, to select, to understand, to anticipate, to draw conclusion, to keep in mind. There have been presented certain exercises systems, suggested by Spanish methodologists for forming listening abilities. Active, extended and productive exercises have been characterized and specified as to the algorithms of doing them. Concerning the topics determined in the program of the discipline “Practice of spoken and written Spanish”for second year students, a series of authentic textbooks for the levels B1 and B2 to select exercises have been offered to students working with audiofragments. The examples of the selected exercises have been classified and presented. It has been clarified that most of the exercises are active regardless of the base level. The extended exercises are much more infrequent because of their purpose which is to develop speaking or writing skills. The lack of the productive exercises in the analyzed textbooks has been explained by their communicative and creative goals which have nothing in common with the direct audiofragments. It is stressed that listening skills training is just a preparatory phase for forming speaking or writing skills. Besides the exercises aimed at forming listening competence, in some textbooks of ELE there are exercises directed to forming students’ phonetic skills, developing recognizing abilities and accumulating declarative and operational knowledge based on the material corresponding to the topic of the lesson. Certain examples have been provided to illustrate this opinion.
