PROFESSIONAL BACHELOR’S TRAINING IN JOURNALISM: THE U.S. UNIVERSITIES EXPERIENCE

Abstract

The article dwells upon the problem of specification of structural components, criteria, indicators and levels of professional competence of future journalists. The article analyzes the scientific and methodological works devoted to the professional training of journalists, as well as the approaches for the formation of their professional competence. Features of the programs for the preparation of bachelors of the humanities and technical sciences in the field of journalism are considered. Their main cycles are determined: socio-humanitarian, fundamental, a cycle of disciplines of a professional direction, elective disciplines, as well as practical training. The general and distinctive features in the educational programs for bachelors of the humanities and technical sciences are covered. The author substantiates the process of professional training in journalism on the example of the experience of US universities. The teaching strategies used in the teaching process at US universities are characterized, the substantive, structural and organizational components of the bachelor’s educational program in the field of journalism are considered. The advantages and disadvantages of curricula are determined, and theoretical and practical problems that need to be solved to achieve the completeness of scientific knowledge on the subject matter are indicated.
