The article deals with the historical background of design education in Ukraine. The given characteristic three important centers: Kyiv, Kharkiv and Odessa, the major in stitutions of the ХІХ century: Kharkov Art Institute, Lviv Polytechnical and Lviv National Academy of Arts. In the article the basic task of design education that are in proceedingsin the educational process design methods, In training highly qualified specialists. The article descripted different universities of Ukraine are studying in design education, graphic design, design style and clothe, interior design.
